Guy Spier Speaker Event at HSG

What happens when a young Wall Street investment banker spends a small fortune to have lunch with Warren Buffett? He becomes a real value investor. Guy Spier is a Zurich-based hedge fund manager and the author of “The Education of a Value Investor”. In June 2007 he made headlines by bidding a stunning US$650,100 for a lunch with Warren Buffet. Since 1997 the ardent disciple of Warren Buffett and managing partner of Aquamarine Capital has managed the firm´s privately offered funds inspired and styled by the original 1950´s Buffett partnerships.

Guy previously worked as an investment banker in New York and as a management consultant in London and Paris. He has an MBA from the Harvard Business School, class of 1993, and holds a First Class degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University. He invests in fast moving consumer goods, insurance, credit rating, spin-offs, restructurings, turnarounds, recaps and bankruptcies and for profit education. Prior to joining the University of St. Gallen for our hedge fund speaker series, he had his own Google Talk and spoke in front of audiences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as well as London Business School.

Credit Suisse: Corporate Development M&A Workshop

Spring Internship Information & Coaching Session

Over the past few years, a new trend has developed: up to half of summer internship spots are allocated to spring interns. Spring internships are 1-2 week short internships for first year students (students that have three years of study remaining due to a Master’s are usually also eligible) that can lead to a summer internship offer for the following year. In effect, this means that whether you are on the high-road to an Analyst job at a top investment bank in London or not will be decided within your first 8 weeks at HSG!

The odds of securing a spring internships are daunting: Deutsche Bank London accepted just 8 out 1067 IBD applicants in 2015. In 2015, a mere 3 HSG students received London spring internship spots, in 2016 the number rose to 5. That´s where we step in: Although the recruiting process is extremely competitive, we will equip you with all the information needed to defeat the odds and land a spot on the program. Maxime, a 2017 spring intern at Goldman Sachs, and Dominic, a 2017 spring intern at J.P. Morgan, will walk you through the process of getting a spot on the internship programs of leading investment banks.

You do not need previous internship experience to get a spring internship: an interesting story can be enough, but it has to be carried by perfect application materials and told in well-crafted pitch geared towards banks’ hiring criteria. In short, if you have any interest in finance, this is the perfect boot camp for you.
