Spring Internship Information & Coaching Session: How to crack the hiring process at top London investment banks
25th September 2017, further details TBA
Maxime, a 2017 spring intern at Goldman Sachs, and Dominic, a 2017 spring intern at J.P. Morgan, will walk you through the process of getting a spot on the internship programs of leading investment banks. Nearly all Analyst positions at leading investment banks in London are filled by students that completed a summer internship at the bank in question the summer before graduation. Getting a job at a top bank without a previous summer internship is nearly impossible (90%+ of hires are summer interns).
Over the past few years, a new trend has developed: up to half of summer internship spots are allocated to spring interns. Spring internships are 1-2 week short internships for first year students (students that have three years of study remaining due to a Master’s are usually also eligible) that can lead to a summer internship offer for the following year.
In effect, this means that whether you are on the high-road to an Analyst job at a top investment bank in London or not will be decided within your first 8 weeks at HSG. The odds of securing a spring internships are daunting: Deutsche Bank accepted just 8 out 1067 IBD applicants in 2015. In 2015, a mere 3 HSG students received London spring internship spots, in 2016 the number rose to 5. That´s where we step in: Although the recruiting process is extremely competitive, we will equip you with all the information needed to defeat the odds and land a spot on the program.
One factor more than any other determines who gets in: preparation. However, without the right knowledge about the recruiting process, your efforts will only increase your chances marginally. Hence, seize this unique opportunity to learn at first hand from successful applicants about their experiences and mistakes to equip yourself with all the knowledge you need to succeed at applying and kickstart your career in Investment Banking. Dominic and Maxime will tell you what banks look for.
One factor more than any other determines who gets in: preparation.
The goal of this event is to boost these numbers by providing you with all of the information you need to crack the hiring process at leading investment banks: What banks look for, how to sell your experience, what is asked in interviews, some tricks that boost your chances, and how to create perfect London investment banking CVs and cover letters (hint: hyper important, huge differentiator, 98% chance that whatever Germans/Swiss helped you draft is suboptimal or downright wrong, even a good 80%+ of HSG Master’s students get this wrong) – all explained by students that have actually succeeded in the process themselves. You do not need previous internship experience to get a spring internship: an interesting story can be enough, but it has to be carried by perfect application materials and told in well-crafted pitch geared towards banks’ hiring criteria. In short, if you have any interest in finance, this is the perfect boot camp for you.
Target audience: Assessment students and anyone graduating in 2020 after a Master’s degree.
